MANY Penangites are ready to usher in the new year by completely switching from using paper-based parking coupons to the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) System at all public parking lots.
Among them is civil servant Watawa Nataf Zulkifli, 34, who has used up all his parking coupons long ago.
“I have been using the PSP application since it was launched last year.
“I understand that it may be a hassle for the older generation as some of them still do not own a smartphone.
“However, I believe it is time for them to keep up with the times and adapt to the new technology.
“Their children and friends can teach them how to use the application and it is really user-friendly.
“I have helped my father instal the application on his smartphone and taught him how to use it, ” he said when met near the Batu Lanchang food complex in Penang yesterday.
As for 45-year-old businessman Daniel Soo, he has also started using the application since it was first launched in 2019.
“The application is easier and safe for the environment as it is paperless.
“I have used up all my parking coupons a long time ago and I have reminded my friends and family to use them before Dec 31.
“After using the application for almost a year, I am familiar with it and it is really convenient, ” he said.Public parking is fully cashless after today. Motorists must download the PSP app into their smartphones.
The PSP app requires motorists to reload credit in the app before using it to pay for parking time.
Meanwhile, a Penang Island City Council (MBPP) spokesman said MBPP had already given ample time and notices to inform the public that the parking coupon can only be used until Dec 31 this year. “In fact, the first announcement was made on the launching day of PSP on Aug 18,2019, ” he said.
Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said in a phone interview that they had reminded users since December last year to use up their parking coupons by Dec 31 this year.
