Speeding up advent of 5G

Bai says ZTE has always shown its commitment to empowering the digital and intelligent transformation of thousands of industries by building ultimate networks, precision cloud networks and empowerment platforms.

Telecommunications and information technology company ZTE Corporation is positioned to invest in the Asia-Pacific region and become a market leader in providing 5G-centric connectivity. This will help facilitate the digital transformation of thousands of industries.

“ZTE has always shown its commitment to empowering the digital and intelligent transformation of thousands of industries by building ultimate networks, precision cloud networks and empowerment platforms, ” said ZTE Corporation vice-president Bai Yang.

In his presentation “Pave the Way for a Digital Future” at the GSMA Thrive Asia-Pacific 2020 virtual conference, he described Asia-Pacific as “young and dynamic” with huge digital potential given that 5G was gathering pace across the region.

The three-day conference was organised by Global System for Mobile Communications Association in partnership with Mobile 360 series. Bai emphasised ZTE’s commitment to help accelerate the digital transformation process. This is through providing the capabilities of 5G-centric connectivity to facilitate the digital transformation of industries in the region, building and incubating a continuous pipeline of opportunities to create new businesses and growth areas for this region.

According to The Mobile Economy Asia Pacific 2020 report published by GSM Association, nine markets in this region have launched commercial mobile 5G services and 12 more have officially announced plans to do so.

Malaysia is among several nations in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia that are aiming to be global leaders in 5G.

ZTE Malaysia is working closely with its 5G partners in Malaysia, namely Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd, to accelerate their 5G deployment goals in Malaysia. Digi Telecommunications has announced its partnership with ZTE Corporation for its nationwide Radio Access Network (RAN) modernisation, which will deliver an improved experience to customers while ensuring that its network is ready for 5G.

Two months ago, U Mobile Sdn Bhd launched its “Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G” live trial at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur. U Mobile prepaid and post-paid customers with SIMs ready for 5G (pre-activated) were able to “fast forward” into the future and get a taste of 5G.

The ongoing live trial until Dec 31 is powered by ZTE Corporation.

The indoor 5G network is available at selected areas on lower ground, ground floor and first floor of Berjaya Times Square.

In addition to working with local telcos, ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd has been hosting its Leading 5G Tour, an annual event in Malaysia since 2014.

Key highlights of this year’s event, themed “Into the New Norm”, included showcasing ZTE’s end-to-end solutions for telecommunications as well as its cutting-edge core network innovations and robotic demonstrations using multi-access edge computing.
