JOHOR BARU: Johor plans to create a digital enclave within Iskandar Puteri to spearhead the economy and realise digital development in the state.
Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the plan was in line with the government’s initiative to establish the Johor Digital Council, that was part of the recently announced seven state initiatives called Tujuh Ikhtiar Makmur Johor to help raise investors’ confidence.
The others included the establishment of Ibrahim Johor Economic Council, Johor Digital Masterplan, Singapore-Johor-Riau Growth Triangle Development, the New Economic Alignment, Johor Food Bank and the Johor Sustainable Development Plan 2019-2030.
“Even though it is just an initiative at this time, I will discuss it further with Iskandar Investment Berhad to further develop Iskandar Malaysia with a digital enclave or a comprehensive digital development centre.
“In Kuala Lumpur, there is a digital centre like Low Yat. We can have one, too, in Johor.”
Hasni, who is Benut assemblyman, said this in his speech during the launch of Johor Digital Economy Centre organised by Sultanah Fatimah Foundation here.
He stressed that having a digital centre would help the government carry out various programmes for the benefit of the people.
Hasni said the state government would also double its efforts to attract more international communication and technology companies to make Johor their main investment destination.
“I give my assurance to investors and those who want to develop technology infrastructure and telecommunications in the state that I will do my best to ensure that it will be easy to do business in Johor.
“We will narrow down and resolve all aspects of bureaucracy that are obstacles, ” he said.
“We want foreign investors to see and experience that investing in Johor is not difficult any more.”
