NO THANKS to the pandemic, face masks have in some ways become a fashion statement.
Entrepreneurs have introduced reusable masks that come in various designs and colours, as an alternative to the three-ply disposable type.
After all, wearing a face mask is now mandatory so people may as well have a bit of fun doing it, without trivialising the importance of face masks in keeping Covid-19 at bay.Leading retailer AEON Co (M) Bhd, which operates a chain of superstores nationwide, has its own range of designer face masks which are being sold for a good cause.
AEON Retail Malaysia chief executive officer Shafie Shamsuddin said the masks were made by a home-grown accessories company, which was forced to change its business model after running into difficulties during the pandemic.
The owner sought AEON’s assistance to market its product, he said.
For every mask sold from now until Nov 15, RM1 will go to the AEON Di Hatiku Fund under the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative. The same applies to the sale of nano-mist safety packs.
Each face mask is priced at RM15, while a face mask set with nano-mist safety pack is priced at RM29.90.
“We want to sell one million face masks in three months, so that RM1mil will be contributed to the AEON Di Hatiku Fund, ” said Shafie.
He shared that the RM1mil fund was to help those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic and others who intend to go into business.
AEON aims to aid 366 local entrepreneurs as it celebrates its 36th Anniversary.
“We are targeting phase 1 collection of RM366,000 to help 366 local individuals start a dropship business with small and medium enterprises.
“We will shortlist those whom we believe will be committed to the dropshipping business, ” he said, adding that AEON was currently working on a dropshipping model for the selected entrepreneurs.
Dropshipping does not require the retailer to keep products in stock as it is based on order fulfilment. The retailer passes on the sales order to the supplier, who then delivers the order to the customer.
Shafie assured customers that the face masks sold under the AEON CSR campaign was of good quality.
“You will not only be saving yourself, you will be giving others a chance to earn a living, ” he said.
On the face masks, he said they were five-layered with built-in filter, washable and hence usable for at least six months.
The product has been lab-tested at MY CO2 (KL) Sdn Bhd; its bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) is 85% and it has been accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia.
“You can refresh your face mask every four hours by spraying nano-mist on it. It smells good and fresh. The small bottle of nano-mist can be carried everywhere, ” said Shafie.
The reusable face mask is eco-friendly as one need not dispose of it after single use, he noted.
“As such, we are protecting the planet in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, ” he added.
The AEON face masks come in different designs and colours and are available at all AEON stores nationwide, including AEON BiG, AEON Wellness and AEON MaxValu, as well as on AEON’s online store (https://myAEON.com.my/).
