Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) is full of praise for a man in Miri who rescued a wounded pangolin, treated it and then surrendered it to the SFC.

SFC chief executive officer and wildlife controller Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said the rescuer’s actions were noteworthy.

“Our SFC office in Miri received a call from him about the pangolin he found wandering near his house in a housing estate.

“He said it was wounded, so he took it home to treat before calling us to surrender it.

“The pangolin has been sent to a SFC sanctuary in Miri and will be nursed back to full health before being released into the forest.

“This kind-hearted man did the right thing and we in SFC thank him for being a good citizen, ” said Zolkipli.

He said members of the public who came across wildlife must surrender them to the nearest SFC office.

“Wildlife cannot be kept as pets.

“They must be left in their natural habitat in the forests, ” he said.

Anyone in Sarawak with information on those who capture, hunt, trade, keep or abuse wildlife can call the SFC hotlines in Kuching (019-885 9996,013-811 0150), Sibu (019-888 3561), Bintulu (019-822 3449,019-833 2737) or Miri (019-822 4566,019-829 0994).
