TELEKOM Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM), awarded its YTM’s Future Leaders scholarships to 50 SPM 2019 high achievers.
While congratulating the scholarship recipients, YTM director Abd Hamid Hashim hopes this scholarship will serve as a motivation for students to perform even better.
“YTM is indeed proud to be an education accelerator and career development provider for Malaysian students.
“As the trusted partner in key nation-building initiatives including education, TM Group remains committed to our role as the country’s key enabler in the delivery of innovative digital services and solutions for the education sector towards building a knowledge-based workforce for the country, ” he said.
Despite the challenging environment globally, the company’s priority is still in investing in the nation’s talent.
Abd Hamid said the company was committed to continue developing and enriching the pool of potential talents by providing education sponsorships to deserving students, an effort it had been driving for the past 25 years.
“We always believe that education is the key to empowering our communities in improving their living standards and competencies, with the aim to enrich lives and propel the nation towards a sustainable future, ” he said.
Abd Hamid hopes YTM scholarship recipients will continue to excel in their studies and extracurricular activities, and later become future leaders and contribute effectively to TM and Malaysia in facing the challenges of the digital era.
The 50 students were carefully selected from more than 6,000 sponsorship applications received nationwide.
Each candidate went through a rigorous preliminary selection process, focusing on the assessment of leadership, entrepreneurial mindset and cooperative qualities, on top of their outstanding SPM results and being active in co-curricular activities.
As TM had to adhere to the movement control order (MCO) due to Covid-19, the applicants for the year had to be screened via online assessment phases.
All recipients will further their studies at TM’s tertiary education arm, Multimedia University (MMU).
This year, applicants came from various education fields including information technology, computer science, electronics engineering (telecommunications), financial engineering, law and other relevant fields that will bring positive impact to TM specifically as well as towards the development of high skilled professionals for the nation.
YTM has set out a high standard of eligibility criteria to qualify as YTM’s Future Leaders scholarship student which include a minimum of 6A’s in SPM.
YTM will open the second intake for first degree programmes at public universities this September, where the applicants must obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) of 3.0.
The applicants should also have outstanding track records in extracurricular activities.
