SIBU: A total of 26 motorists have been issued with a RM1,000 compound for violating the movement control order (MCO) during roadblocks conducted on Monday (April 13).
Of the number, 17 were compounded at a roadblock conducted at Jalan Lanang and the remaining nine at Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the violators were those caught with two persons either in their car or on motorcycle.
“Roadblocks are conducted to ensure that only one person, that is the driver, is in the car.
“This is the same for motorcycles where the motorcyclist must not have pillion rider, ” he said.
Stanley warned that roadblocks would be conducted every day and those caught with two persons in a vehicle would be issued a compound.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri
Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani had issued a statement on April 8 that police would be issuing a RM1,000 compound notice to those who violate the MCO.
The compounds, he said, were issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
