KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has temporarily closed its public premises in compliance with the Federal government’s movement control order (MCO).

These include the DBKU library at Bangunan Majma Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua’zam Shah at Jalan P. Ramlee, the Cat Museum at DBKU headquarters, the Orchid Garden in Petra Jaya and DBKU community libraries.

“The temporary closure of these premises is in line with the government’s decision to implement a movement control order to curb the spread of Covid-19, ” the local authority said in a statement.

It is also temporarily cancelling the Darul Hana musical fountain show at the Kuching Waterfront until further notice.

In addition, trading centres under DBKU’s jurisdiction have been closed until March 31.

The affected areas include the Anekarasa, Sungai Maong, Lorong Cathay, Open Air Market, Tower Market, Semarak, Koperkasa and Kuching Waterfront hawker centres, cobblers’ kiosks at the Satok flyover, night markets, entertainment outlets and other non-essential business premises.

Premises selling food are only allowed to operate for drive-thru, delivery and takeaway.

DBKU also said it was halting work at construction sites under its supervision during this period.

However, it said contractors were allowed to finish up any works which could pose a danger to the public if left uncompleted, as well as emergency maintenance works to ensure public safety.

Traffic control, security and scheduled maintenance of critical facilities at project sites would also continue, it said.

“City maintenance and cleaning works such as tree trimming, grass cutting, drains and roads would only be carried out when there was a critical need, ” DBKU said.
