Abdul Rashid greeting tourists at the arrival hall in SkyPark Terminal, Subang in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020.

SELANGOR is expecting eight million domestic and international tourists this year, with a projected tourist receipt of over RM15bil.

Selangor culture, tourism, Malay customs and heritage committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari said this to the press after welcoming passengers at the arrival hall of SkyPark Terminal in Subang (also known as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) yesterday.

Passengers departed from the Seletar Airport in Singapore.

They received a rousing welcome to the sounds of kompang and were gifted with batik scarves as well as a goodie bag that contained dodol (a traditional sticky dessert).

Abdul Rashid said that although Selangor ranked third after Sabah (first) and Penang (second) for the most number of tourists, Selangor had the highest amount of tourism receipts in 2018 at RM13.2bil.

“It is estimated that 500 to 600 tourists will be arriving at the SkyPark Terminal today (yesterday) and we expect the number to increase in the days to come.

“In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020, we have 16 programmes lined up for both domestic and foreign tourists, ” he said, adding that the data (for tourism receipts) for 2019 would only be available in four or five months’ time.

According to Abdul Rashid, Selangor has many unique tourism products across the sectors of eco and agro-tourism, medical, education and sports tourism.

“Sky Mirror is the current most popular tourism attraction. There is also the fireflies and Fruits Valley in Kuala Selangor.

“As for medical tourism, we have hospitals and medical specialists in Selangor that offer facilities and unique treatments at an affordable price, ” he highlighted.

He said RM9.7mil will be allocated for tourism from the Selangor Budget this year.

The welcome ceremony was held at 22 arrival halls and selected locations nationwide.
