JOHOR BARU: The National Fiberisation & Connectivity Plan (NFCP) 2019-2023 will be one of the important development plans that the Johor government will focus on in the state budget to be tabled on Nov 21.
State housing, communication and multimedia committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said Johor will set up a special task force to monitor and oversee the development and implementation of NFCP in the state.
“The details will be announced by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
“The task force’s main aim is to make sure we can fully roll out NFCP by 2023.
“The Federal Government launched the plan last September and the state will make sure this plan will bear fruit, ” he said after launching Pos Malaysia (Johor) appreciation ceremony for Excellent Workers at Pusat Mel Larkin here.
Dzulkefly said NFCP was important if the state government wanted Johor to remain one of the top three GDP contributors after Selangor and Penang.
“Johor is also the biggest investment earner. We recorded RM24bil in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2018, a four-fold increase from RM5.1bil in 2017.
“Foreign investors now are not only looking for quality water supply and electricity but also wider and faster Internet coverage and that is where NFCP plays an important role, ” he said.
On another matter, Dzulkefly said Pos Malaysia was still working out the best method to ensure postal service in the country remains relevant.
He said this in response to a price increase announcement made by Universal Postal Union (UPU) starting from January that aimed to align its operation costs.
The UPU is a United Nations agency that coordinates postal policies among member nations, besides the worldwide postal system.
