PETRONAS’ third exhibition this year, “Bersama Merentas Zaman”, presents compelling fine art from three prominent Malaysian artists – Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Multhalib Musa and Zulkifli Yusoff.

The exhibition is held in conjunction with Petronas’ 45th anniversary, National Day and Malaysia Day. It was launched by Petronas group strategic communications senior general manager Zahariah Abd Rahman.

Galeri Petronas showcases artworks depicting the growth of Petronas in three different forms — painting, sculpture and installation.

“Unnamed Series” by Bayu Utomo portrays a figure of a man in three profound poses. This artwork highlights silat, a form of Malay martial arts.

The painting reflects the strength and determination of a silat performer and this echoes Petronas’ dream to be a major force behind the nation.

This artwork represents Petronas’ assertive action in moving forward for Malaysia’s future betterment.

A sculpture titled “Ascend” by Multhalib was made out of steel representing a mythical bird named Jentayu.

Shaped into an illusion showing elevation, it interprets the effect

of wisdom towards human spirit, similar to Petronas’ commitment in the last 45 years.

Meanwhile, “Merdeka: A Work of Progress, ” an installation piece by Zulkifli, has 16 artistic objects. It is divided into two parts: one part is displayed on the wall while the other part is exhibited on the floor.

Zulkifli’s works symbolise natural resources and Petronas’ role in managing them.

Galeri Petronas director Dzalina A. Manan said these three art forms were an effort to let artists express their creativity and passion in line with the slogan “Sketching an identity through talent and spirit.”

“One of the artworks is part of Petronas’ collection and was commissioned six years ago, ’’ she added.

“Bersama Merentas Zaman” aims to embrace humanity and social sciences, mathematics, and literature through fine arts.

The exhibition is open to the public and entry is free. It is at Galeri Petronas, Level 3, Suria KLCC until Oct 6.
