PENANG’S first international competitive tower running competition, Penang TOP International Tower Run 2019, will be held on Sept 15 at The Top@Komtar.

The finish line will be on Level 68 and the race will be conducted in batches.

Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the competition will feature four categories — Men Open, Women Open, Men Veteran and Women Veteran with trophies and cash prizes worth up to RM5,600.

“The top 10 contestants of every category will receive a trophy, while the top five of the Men and Women Open category will receive cash prizes on top of the trophies.

“Up until now, we have 800 participants, ” he said during a press conference at Komtar on Monday.

He said the participants who signed up are from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Iran, Kenya, India, Australia and the United States.

“The run is sanctioned by the Towerruning World Association.

“To ensure that this event meets international standards, every participant will be required to wear a timing chip as part of their race kit, ” he said.

He said the race would be conducted in batches to prevent overcrowding.

“Participants will run all the way up to the top floor, Level 68, and will head down via the elevator at Level 59.

“Each participant will be entitled to a medal, T-shirt, bib, as well as refreshments when they register for the run.

“This year’s medals are special, as they feature a spinning version of the iconic Penang Komtar Tower, ” he added.

The event is organised by Soon’s office.
