‘Kapar needs modern crematorium’

MOURNERS’ chants are loud, while clouds of smoke rise high into the skies as the coffin is engulfed in flames atop a pile of wood for hours. A gust of wind whips up ashes from the insatiable fire into the air.

It is a traditional Hindu funeral pyre at the open-air Jalan Keretapi Lama Crematorium in Mile 10 of Kampung Perepat, Kapar, which has served the people for 86 years. It is also a burial site.
