JOHOR BARU: Malaysia needs to strengthen its defence system by embracing technology as threats to the country’s safety and security no longer come from nations but from technology experts.

Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said such treats should be repulsed with faster and transparent actions to safeguard the people.

“We should immediately curb unverified news or sources which are spread like wildfire by irresponsible parties as failing to do so could become a national threat,’’ he said in his speech at the state-level Warriors’ Day programme here.

Osman said credit and honour should be given to the country’s military personnel, even those who had passed away as their sacrifices, struggles and services in defending the country enabled Malaysians to live in a peaceful country.

At the event, he presented a RM100,000 donation from the state government to the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association. - By REMAR NORDIN
