A SIBU-BASED company emerged champion of reality competition show Innovathon® Season 3 during its finale.
A representative of Twin Catalyst Sdn Bhd, a Sarawakian medical device company, said it was a significant milestone and highlighted the state’s growing presence in Malaysia’s innovation and technology landscape.
Produced by Astro in collaboration with Economy Ministry and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, the reality programme is a platform for innovators to pitch solutions for real-world challenges.
This season featured teams competing through several rounds, with finalists evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges that included Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, celebrity Erra Fazira, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Capital A Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and entrepreneur Joel Neoh Eu Jin.
The programme also offered business development support funding of up to RM1.65mil.
Twin Catalyst secured the top spot with its Wondaleaf Adhesive Pouch, a secondary wound dressing designed to protect wounds and catheter sites while reducing common issues such as skin irritation and water exposure.
Marketed as the world’s first “3D dressing”, the product is already in use in hospitals across Malaysia and several international markets, including Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.
The win follows Twin Catalyst’s participation in the competition for three consecutive seasons.
The achievement is another feather in its cap, which already has awards from the iAGE Innovation Competition and international design platforms.
Founder Dr John Tang said the win demonstrated that companies from smaller towns like Sibu could achieve national and global recognition.
