SINCE the start of StarMetro’s hygiene campaign, we have been flooded with response from residents in Subang Jaya.
Complaints of dirty eateries came from Seri Kembangan, USJ 1, 2 and 4, Bandar Puteri Puchong and Bandar Puchong Jaya.
A check by StarMetro found that many of the restaurants highlighted used the back lanes to prepare food and wash dishes.
It was a common sight and some restaurants in Jalan Kenari, Bandar Puchong Jaya and USJ 4 have even built platforms to have extra space for food preparation and dish washing.
A StarMetro reader said he witnessed foreign employees at a restaurant in Jalan Kenari peeling and chopping garlic and handling food behind the restaurant.
Many restaurants openly prepare ingredients and wash dishes along the back lanes, flouting rules by local authorities which prohibit food handling from being done in back lanes.
This is to prevent food waste and oil from washing into the drains and clogging them.
Back lanes are also reserved for waste contractors to pick up rubbish.
The list of restaurants highlighted to StarMetro has been forwarded to Subang Jaya Municipal Council for action to be taken.
