First-timer ready for challenge

JENNY Choy Tsi Jen, DAP’s candidate for the Canning state seat, gathered quite a crowd on her walkabout in Taman Mirindi, Kampung Simee in Ipoh.

The 30-year-old software engineer received numerous requests from members of the public to take photographs with her during a visit to introduce herself.

Well-wishers urged her to work hard and do her best.

When asked whether she was nervous about contesting in a general election for the first time and running her own campaign, Choy said she was mostly feeling calm.

“Everything is okay. Although this is my first time campaigning for myself, I have been doing the ground work here for five years.

“I was also political secretary to Ipoh Timur parliamentary seat candidate Wong Kah Woh and had followed him around whenever he went to meet with the people,” she said, adding that she joined the party in 2008.

“I gained a lot of experience from him,” said the DAP Youth executive council member and Perak DAPsy secretary.

She will stand in the state seat against Barisan Nasional’s Liew Kar Tuan of Gerakan.

On facing the 55-year-old Liew, Choy said her team is prepared to win the hearts of the voters.

“I strongly urged Perakians working abroad to return home to cast their ballots,” she added.
