TRADERS and visitors at the Yulek morning market in Taman Cheras greeted Cheras parliamentary seat candidate Heng Sinn Yee with smiles on Sunday morning.
Heng, who is also Cheras Wanita MCA chief, was on the ground to meet with voters.
“Some of the people I met said the market was in need of upgrading work and a new paint job.
“They wanted me to look into the roofing and drainage system,” she said.
The 40-year-old candidate added that she was touched by those who told her to take care of herself.
Heng is currently observing a month-long confinement period after giving birth to a baby boy on April 5.
“I was asked to drink a lot of water. They also wanted me to make sure I wear something to cover my head when I go out,” Heng said.
Her visit to the market coincided with that of Cheras incumbent and DAP veteran Tan Kok Wai, 60, who was at the same venue for his own campaign trail.
Tan congratulated Heng on her newborn and wished her good health.
Heng’s manifesto for Cheras focuses on empowering women to be financially independent by starting their own businesses.
She also pledged to fix housing problems, provide free tuition classes to children and upgrade Taman Connaught night market into a cultural street.
