State govt has no long-term plans for the homeless, says Barisan

THE state government has been accused of failing to fulfil its promises to find a solution for the homeless in the state.

Padang Kota Barisan Nasional coordinator H’ng Khoon Leng said even though the promises were made by the state leaders for the last 10 years, there were more vagabonds on the streets.

“Barisan has been more successful in providing temporary homes for them,” he said after visiting the transit home at Anjung Singgah in Chulia Street, Penang, recently.

H’ng was accompanied by Tanjong Barisan coordinator Datuk Ng Siew Lai and other Barisan members.

“We could only place these people for about a week or two and they will have to be relocated elsewhere.

“We picked up about 30 of them from the streets,” he said.

The state, said H’ng, should walk the talk and be compassionate about taking care of the homeless.

H’ng and the team later distributed food packets and drinks to the homeless in Chulia Street.
