SP SETIA Bhd will unveil the biggest urban grocery market in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Eco City (KLEC) Mall in the first quarter of next year.
The collaboration with Jaya Grocer brought the idea of Bangsar Market to life, and it will be at Level 2 of KLEC Mall, occupying the entire floor measuring 5,016.7sq m (54,000 sq ft).
“Inspiration for this concept comes from internationally-renowned markets like Camden Market in London and Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne,” said SP Setia divisional general manager Tony Ling during the launch of Bangsar Market.
“The further attraction of the urban grocery market will be the accessibility of Bangsar Market at KLEC with many links to transport hubs,” said Ling.
SP Setia invested approximately RM200mil to build ramps and bridge including the two-tier internal road system to allow traffic to enter and exit via major roads such as the Federal Highway and New Pantai Expressway among others.
Jaya Grocer chief operating officer Molly Loh said, “Bangsar Market by Jaya Grocer aims to bring back the wet market ‘feel’ to modern-day retail setting.
She recalled memories of shopping at a wet market as a youngster, stopping by stalls to chat with traders known for a long time.
“We would also provide only the freshest ingredients for customers and there are sections where customers will be able to watch traders preparing sushi, smoked salmon and fresh pasta.
“Bangsar Market will also have fresh fruits and vegetable stations, supported by a fresh juice station and a salad bar.
“There will also be a unique durian stall that will serve the King of Fruits all year round,” she added.
The urban grocery shopping centre will also have a wide selection of dining options including a range of restaurants and cafes, and also the most renowned food stalls for customers to dine in.
KLEC Mall, which is a five-storey building, offers approximately 23,225.7sq m (250 000 sq ft) of retail space encompassing an extensive selection of restaurants, speciality stores and services.
