The 30th Carlsberg Golf Classic (CGC) #Nextgen tournament attracted 3,600 participants competing in 32 golf clubs across Malaysia.

The highly anticipated event crowned its 30th champion, who gave a superb performance, in the exciting grand finale at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort in Petaling Jaya.

The annual CGC #Nextgen tournament for amateur golfers teed off in May as participants vied for a spot at the national finals.

It also included three digital legs at golf simulator outlets.

Nor Azmi Akob emerged with the championship title after shooting a 67 total.

He took home a Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar multisport watch, a set of Stealth KBS Max 85 JV (22) ST 5-9P/S golf clubs and a TaylorMade 9in FlexTech waterproof stand bag.

Meanwhile, Gwee Li Jun clinched the gross title for the second year running.

He won a Garmin Marq GPS smart watch, Stealth KBS Max 85 JV (22) ST 5-9P/S iron set and TaylorMade 9in FlexTech waterproof stand bag with a score of 73.

“This victory has increased my love for the game and I’ve gained a lot of confidence in my abilities,” said Gwee.

“The tournament has grown and now draws thousands of participants across Malaysia.

“This is fantastic for the development of golf in the country, creating more opportunities for newcomers.

“I plan to continue improving my game and am already looking forward to the next tournament.”

Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said aside from sportsmanship, the tournament showcased companionship among the golfers.

“That is something in common with the Carlsberg brand which also brings people together.

“It is a match made in heaven and we will carry on with this tournament to take the game to the new generation.

“With unwavering support from the Malaysian golfing community, we are committed to making the Carlsberg Golf Classic bigger and better in years to come and cannot wait to get started on the next tournament,” Clini said.

The Carlsberg Golf Classic #Nextgen is supported by long-term partners and sponsors including Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Adidas, TaylorMade, Garmin and SunPlay.
