KL-based teacher wins overall Mr Sibu crown


Seasoned bodybuilder Charles Luanga Uyong was crowned champion at the Mr Sibu 2023 Bodybuilding and Physique Competition in Sarawak.

Charles, 31, who is a sports science teacher based in Kuala Lumpur, beat four finalists to win the title.

In second spot was Anthony Tebie while Gaddafi Arafat Zulkasisi and Lee Borris placed third and fourth respectively.

In the men’s Sports Category, Ahmad Alif Mohamad Merah was crowned champion, followed by Wong Cheng Tian (second place) and Chiew Chee Tak (third place).

Fadhli Basni was the winner of the Men’s Athletic Physique Category (under 170cm), while in second was Ahmad Alif Mohamad Merah and Azmir Ajis took the third placing.

The Men’s Athletic Physique Category (170cm and above) was won by Chiew Chee Tak, followed by second-placed Edric Jiau Yew Ang and Mohd Al Badrul Abu (third place).

All the winners received their prizes from Sarawak Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Michael Tiang. The prizes consisted of trophies, medals and fitness products.

Tiang congratulated the bodybuilders and said in his speech, “I am confident that our athletes will achieve even more and inspire more to join bodybuilding.”

Sibu Division Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association’s Chia Soon Cheong was also on hand to give away prizes to the winners.
