Many of us often get caught up with work and endless daily responsibilities.
In conjunction with International Picnic Day, which falls on June 18 annually, we took ourselves out on a picnic and we now think you should go on one, too.
Whether it's with family, friends or just on your own, a picnic is a great way to reconnect with nature without travelling too far from home. In fact, all you need is a mat, a shaded spot and, of course, some snacks.
From sprawling parks to refreshing waterfalls, there are plenty of idyllic spots that you can check out in the country.
For city dwellers, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor have no shortage of places for a quick outdoor escape.
One of the most popular being Perdana Botanical Garden, a large 90ha park nestled in the heart of KL. A favourite among joggers, cyclists and families, the park's beautifully manicured lawns and open spaces make it ideal for a leisurely picnic, too.
You can also head to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, where you can enjoy expansive lakeside views with KL's skyline in the background. But beyond these already-popular places, there are also smaller neighbourhood parks such as Taman Subang Ria and Ara Damansara Park in Selangor.
Also in Selangor, Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam is home to not only vibrant foliage but also themed gardens.
Meanwhile, Melaka Botanical Garden features scenic lakes and cycling trails, making it a favourite with families.
In Johor, Hutan Bandar Majlis Bandaraya Johor Baru provides a peaceful urban forest setting.
And up north in Kedah, Taman Jubli Emas is known for its serene lakeside atmosphere.
Of course, picnics in Malaysia are not limited to parks alone. You can also head to waterfalls for a refreshing dip or to the beaches for sea views.
Among the waterfalls are Chiling Waterfalls (Selangor), Lata Iskandar (Perak) and Sungai Pandan Waterfal (Pahang).
If you prefer the beach, there are a several options, too, like to Desaru Coast (Johor), Batu Ferringhi (Penang) and Pantai Cherating (Pahang).
