The Michelin Guide recently released its Keys list – the guide’s hotel edition that rates outstanding properties – for Thailand. The announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of Michelin’s hotel selection, which currently features over 5,000 properties from around the globe.

In total, 58 hotels and/or resorts in Thailand, selected by the guide’s anonymous inspectors, were handed either Three Keys, Two Keys or One Key distinctions.

According to the official Michelin website, the selected properties were evaluated in five categories by the inspectors, namely architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character of the place, and value for money, as well as a “significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting”.

As many as eight properties received the Three Keys distinction, with half of them being seaside resorts. The hotels and resorts are Amanpuri and Keemala in Phuket; Phula Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Krabi; Samujana Villas in Surat Thani; Soneva Kiri in Trat; Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai; and Mandarin Oriental and The Siam in Bangkok.

Notably, the capital city is where you’ll find most of the Michelin Keys recipients, instead of at Thailand’s famous islands or beaches.

In the Two Keys category, as many as 19 properties were listed, including the unique Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai; Six Senses Yao Noi in Phang Nga; SALA Samui Choengmon Beach in Surat Thani; Pimalai Resort & Spa in Krabi; Rachamankha in Chiang Mai; and The Okura Prestige, and The Sukhotai in Bangkok.

Capella Bangkok, which was recently named the “Best Hotel” in the the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 list, also received Two Keys.

Meanwhile, a whopping 31 properties received the One Key distinction – eight in Bangkok, seven in Phuket, four in Chiang Mai, four in Prachuap Khiri Khan (Hua Hin), and the rest scattered all around the country.

Of the 31, the Anantara Hotels & Resorts group had two properties on the list (with another two in the Three and Two Keys categories), making it the most recognised brand in this year’s Michelin Guide Thailand.

Some of the others that received One Key include 137 Pillars Suites Bangkok, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok and The Standard Bangkok; Veranda Resort & Villas Hua Hin Cha Am (Phetchaburi); Raya Heritage (Chiang Mai); V Villas Hua Hin (Prachuap Khiri Khan); InterContinental Khao Yai Resort (Nakhon Ratchasima); Rayavadee (Krabi); and COMO Point Yamu and The Slate (Phuket).
