The Petronas Twin Towers is among the top 10 tourist landmarks in the world with the cheapest parking, according to a new study.

The twin skyscrapers in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) area came in at fifth place on the list by car insurance company Uswitch.

Average hourly parking at the towers, according to the study, is €0.86 (about RM4).

A check by The Star revealed that the parking rate at KLCC starts at RM5 for the first hour, with subsequent charges at RM4 per hour.

The top three destinations on the list are Zagreb Cathedral (€0.04/RM0.19) in Croatia, Burj Al Arab Hotel (¤0.22/RM1.04) in Dubai and Temple Saint Sava (€0.77/RM3.65) in Belgrade.

The Windmills of Kinderdjik (€0.79/RM3.74) in the Netherlands came in at fourth place.

On the other extreme, Disneyland Paris is the tourist spot with the most expensive hourly parking. To park your car there, you will need to pay €23.21 (RM109.97) per hour!

“Getting around by car seems to be the preferred option for people who want more flexibility whilst travelling on holiday, which can be tricky if relying on buses or trains. However, touring your chosen holiday spot in a car can mean contending with the issue of pricey parking fees.

“This is why we’ve decided to give travellers driving abroad a helping hand by comparing average parking costs for worldwide capitals and their landmarks,” Uswitch said on its website.

The company analysed the number of car parks nearby the most popular tourist destinations, as well as their average prices on Parkopedia.

To get a more accurate result, over 8,000 car parks in the proximity of the landmarks contained within the sample were identified.

The data was aggregated to determine the total number of parking spaces for each landmark, the weighted average hourly rate, and the ratio of different car park types.
