Jeram Linang Waterfall in Kelantan offers remarkable cascades

There is no shortage of stunning waterfalls in Malaysia, and they come in various shapes and sizes.

Kelantan is home to the Jelawang Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in South-East Asia. This captivating waterfall is 460m above sea level; it can be seen from the roadside in the town of Dabong.

Many activities are on offer here such as caving, hiking and river crossing.

But Jelawang Waterfall is not the only remarkable cascade in Kelantan.

There is also the lesser-known Jeram Linang Waterfall in Machang, which is easily accessible to the public and family-friendly too. It is located at the Jeram Linang Eco Forest Park, set within the Ulu Sat Forest Reserve.

The waterfall is popular among hikers, campers and adventure seekers. Many visitors will come here on the weekends and during the holidays, especially in the dry season between April and September.

The Jeram Linang Waterfall may appear underwhelming at first glance, but it is a nice place to relax as the sound of the water lapping has a seemingly calming effect on most people.

There are basic changing facilities available in the area so don’t worry about having to walk back in your wet clothes after taking a dip in the water.

If you’re keen to discover more, hike to the top of the waterfall to get a different view of the place. Or, go further to the Bukit Bakar Tropical Forest to check out the surroundings there.

If you’re taking your friends or family to the waterfall, bring along a small tent and some cooking equipment for a day camping experience.

However, camping at night is prohibited for now.

There is a mini zoo and playground nearby too for children to enjoy.

The place is open from 7am to 6pm daily. Avoid visiting during rainy seasons as the ground can get quite slippery then.

Getting there

The Ulu Sat Forest Reserve (N05° 44.52’ E102° 22.54’) is only a 20-minute drive from Machang, Kelantan.

Another option is to take a bus or taxi from Pasir Puteh (12km), or cycle there from the town.
