Rhapsody in blue

Celebrating 145-year legacy with tribute to Seiko Blue.

Building on a legacy of pioneering spirit, the Seiko Blue − a signature colour of the brand − was introduced in the 1960s.

Now, two limited editions have been added to the Presage Classic Series to commemorate Seiko’s 145th anniversary.

Japanese craftwork

The first limited-edition watch is distinguished by an Arita porcelain dial with a glaze in cobalt blue, a traditional Arita ware hue.

Presented for the first time in a Presage creation, this deep colour posed a challenge for the Presage team to achieve on a slim dial.

Created under the supervision of Arita porcelain master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, each dial is meticulously crafted by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team at an Arita workshop with roots dating back to 1830.

Beyond the complexity of developing the glaze itself, particular care was taken to ensure the dial’s finely moulded pattern was expressed in its full beauty.

Through extensive refinement, the glaze was carefully balanced so that the underlying pattern was neither overly pronounced nor obscured, achieving an ideal tone across the dial’s surface.

The radiating pattern at the centre of the dial accentuates the delicate tonal gradations created by the cobalt blue glaze.

The interplay of raised and recessed surfaces was refined to highlight the glaze’s transparency and depth.

This pursuit represents a new technical and artistic challenge, expanding the possibilities of Arita porcelain dials within the Presage collection.

The production of each watch dial consists of a multi-stage process that requires precisely controlled moulding and firing procedures. To give the dial the strength required for a watch, the artisans use a type of Arita porcelain specially formulated to be more than four times stronger than traditional porcelain.

Subtle variations may be present in each dial due to the intricate production process, lending every watch a distinct character and individuality.

A newly developed case design enhances the depth and dimensionality of the Arita porcelain dial, capturing the understated elegance of the Seiko Presage Classic Series.

Paired with a dual-curved sapphire crystal, the watch achieves a clean and refined profile.

The watch is powered by the mechanical Calibre 6R51, which offers a power reserve of 72 hours, and features a strap made with leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified (LWG) tanneries.

In both technology and refined craftwork, the new creation exemplifies the very best of Seiko’s modern watchmaking.

The watch is limited to 1,500 pieces.

A second masterpiece

A second timepiece joins the Seiko Presage Classic Series in celebration of Seiko’s 145th anniversary.

Drawing inspiration from silk, the dial features a finely rendered, silk-like texture that conveys quiet refinement.

Its hue is inspired by shironeri, an immaculate white born from the refining of silk threads.

Its untinted and pristine whiteness evokes a sense of new beginnings, making it an especially fitting expression for this commemorative creation.

The hands and indexes are gently curved to follow the contour of the dial, creating a harmonious sense of unity.

Their blue tone, inspired by Seiko Blue, introduces a striking contrast against the dial’s serene white surface.

The compact 36mm case is defined by soft, flowing curves, lending it a warm, classical presence on the wrist.

A delicately decorated bezel further enhances the classical design.

The watch is also powered by Calibre 6R51 and has straps from LWG-certified tanneries.

This creation is limited to 2,500 pieces.

Both editions are available at Seiko boutiques and select retail stores.
