Not too long, not too short: The midi skirt’s timeless fashion appeal

It’s not too short and neither is it too long, making the midi the skirt length of the moment and we’re here for it. Photo composite (from left): H&M, Ralph Lauren, Max Mara

They go up and down depending on the seasonal mood but once they’ve made a comeback, they tend to stick around.

We’re talking skirt lengths here, and what’s trending now is the midi length.

Set between the knee and the ankle, often hitting the mid-calf area, the midi length feels just right. It has a naturally elegant air about it.

The best thing about a midi? It plays well with almost anything in the wardrobe, from tailored to relaxed styles.

With a slight flare and in a soft, serene white shade that is going to be 2026’s "Colour of the Year" as declared by Pantone, christened Cloud Dancer, Maje’s midi skirt possesses a timeless appeal.

It is paired with a blue turtleneck with a matching fringed shawl knotted at the waist.

A dark brown fuzzy jacket and brown leather boots add a rich colour punch to the look.

Ralph Lauren goes in a completely different direction.

With a safari-inspired vibe, the American designer’s midi skirt creation in a sand-dune shade is contrasted with a sleek black leather tube top for a fresh, modern take on metropolitan style.

This bold ensemble is just what you need to roam in style for a night out in the urban jungle or festivities to mark Christmas and the end of 2025 with a fashion roar.

Our favourite is Thom Browne’s pleated midi skirt that is part of a blazer-and-coat trio.

Apart from the pleat detail, what makes the outfit eye-catching is the countryside print, complete with flying ducks and rustic old barns, spread across the entire ensemble. So delightfully quirky!

Sexy with some sheen is H&M’s midi skirt with a lace hemline. In a nude colour with a lingerie-inspired attitude, it is worn underneath a black sleeveless coat dress.

The midi skirt reveals itself peekaboo-style as the model walks since the coat is spliced open in the middle.

For a simple, straightforward midi skirt, check out COS’s version in a brown-and-beige checked material that comes with a matching loose top plus a handbag in the same fabric.

A look that is unfussy, coordinated and quietly confident.

Over at Italian label Max Mara, the midi is slightly flared with a high waist that’s defined by a slim brown leather belt.

The camel-coloured skirt is styled with a boat-neck midriff top in the same shade, sheer gloves, a roomy tote and tassel loafers.

It’s part of the Resort 2026 collection and gives off a breezy mix of sophistication and ease, perfect whether you’re on a glamorous getaway or just bringing the glamour home.

One thing’s clear is that the midi skirt isn’t going anywhere.
