Knot so basic: The little twist making a big fashion statement

When it comes to expressive style, it’s all in the details. There are countless little twists and touches to choose from.

They include dazzling ones like sparkling crystals or sequins, edgy accents such as studs and spikes, feminine features like bows and ribbons, and so much more.

Among the most interesting details has to be the knot.

Sometimes appearing on T-shirts, other times on dresses, and even on jackets, this playful accent is versatile.

Since knots tend to gather fabric, they naturally sculpt the form of the garment, creating subtle drapes or defined cinches that highlight the body’s lines.

The result is a silhouette that is relaxed and refined, with some movement, depth, and a touch of creativity.

A tight knot on a beige dress, worn under a sheer long-sleeved black top from Issey Miyake’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, is among the key looks.

It’s just a little twist that ties the whole outfit together, giving the look both quirky energy and polished edge, and making it well, knot-so-easy to forget.

Interestingly, the knots at Tory Burch are crafted with creativity, each taking on an almost square-like shape.

Scattered across a grey cocktail dress, these knot motifs serve as both adornment and design element.

Not what you’d expect is the knot accent on a Stella McCartney cocktail dress.

In a lovely light blue shade, the silk satin number has a reverse knot detail at the centre of the dress.

The effect is quietly dramatic.

For a bold twist on the knot trend, check out Moschino’s latest creation.

The Italian label sends out a vibrant yellow off-shoulder dress where knots appear almost everywhere, worked into ties that trail freely from the silhouette.

The loosely trailing ties add a playful sway, turning the knot into a statement with every step.

Chinese-American designer, Vivienne Tam highlights the art of fastening with a decorative knot on one of her newest creations.

A Chinese frog button, itself a knot design, secures her cropped jacket design and lends it an ornamental and exotic finish.

The knot motif continues at Ralph Lauren, where an intricate knot-and-tie detail defines a striking red strapless dress.

Cut from what seems like a single piece of fabric, draped and knotted sarong-style, the look is nothing short of show-stopping. And that’s a wrap!
