Different temperatures and changing weather conditions can cause your hair to knot quickly. Try these expert tips to prevent tangles.

Many people suffer from unruly and matted hair no matter what the season.

The cold and dry heated indoor air and the friction caused by hats and scarves puts a strain on hair. And long hair is particularly prone to tangles unlike short hair.

Tie long hair in a loose braid, advises Antonio Weinitschke, art director of the Association Of German Hairdressers.

Do not leave your hair loose at night to avoid tangles, he says.

Hair care and hairstyle are also important. Conditioners and leave-in products keep the hair moisturised and the cuticle layer closed.

That keeps your hair smooth and makes it less prone to tangles. If your hair becomes tangled, comb it carefully to loosen any knots.

Start at the ends and work your way slowly to the roots, Weinitschke recommends.

A wide-toothed comb or brushes with softer bristles are best.

Wet your hair a little, as damp hair is easier to untangle. Use a drop of conditioner or hair oil to make it even easier, he says. – dpa
