Style Watch: Malaysian Evonne Saw loves playing the fashionable anti-hero

Between spending her time modelling for friends in their editorial projects, creating content for social media and pursuing commercial and editorial clients, Evonne Saw is also keeping busy tinkering with Fat Cat Coffee Club, a small coffee bar which she co-owns.

The content creator who often turns heads at events with her striking makeup and goth lolita-esque vibe finds it difficult to describe her personal style.

“I enjoy dressing to the occasion,” says Saw, 27. “I suppose if there was a way I could describe my style, it would be ‘super villain-ness doing a grocery run’,” she says.

What is your favourite go-to look?

A maxi skirt with a tailored top that defines the waist and heavy chunky Marc Jacobs Kiki boots.

What are your three must-have style/beauty items?

A graphic liner, statement rings and a statement jacket – you never know when you might need to cover up.

What trend would you most like to see disappear?

Micro trends on social media like “tomato girl”, “blueberry girl”, “quiet luxury girl” and so on. Not everything needs to have a label. Let’s just enjoy ourselves wearing whatever we feel like.

Who would you consider a style icon and why?

Vivienne Westwood, for her everlasting punk and romantic ideals. Michelle Lamy, for all her darkness and mystery. I want to be them when i grow up!

What are three key pieces everyone should have in their wardrobe?

A good pair of boots, a corset and a plain dress you can wear over and over again.
