Feel like changing up your hairstyle? If you’re looking for a fresh new look and considering a transformation for your hair, check out the latest looks from the Autumn/Winter 2023 runways.

Among the biggest trends are styles from the 1990s making a comeback – from the “Rachel cut” to bobs and even the “half-up, half-down” look (sported by Blackpink’s Jennie recently).

Whether it’s as simple as experimenting with bangs or a major makeover, there are plenty of options to choose from.

The influence of the 90s continues to reign supreme in 2023, especially with updos reminiscent of styles worn by icon Pamela Anderson back in the day.

Think messy and voluminous loose bun meets shaggy fringe that frames your face, achievable by sectioning your bangs and clipping the longer strands, and using hairspray on the roots to give them hold.

Bedhead hair

Looking like you just rolled out of bed is a no-brainer trend to try, as nothing could be easier than doing as little as possible when you’re rushing to start your day.

With a nod to 90s fashion, messy and grunge-inspired styles are taking centre stage, evolving from the popular tousled beach waves of recent years.

Super short styles

Buzz cuts are a big thing right now, and a great solution if you need to cut off damaged hair and regrow healthier strands.

But remember, “even buzzed hair needs to be treated,” advises Allure.com, recommending leave-in moisture treatments to keep growth strong and healthy.

The good news about buzz cuts is that when your hair grows out, the punky pixie can well be your next chic trend.

Transitioning is easy; simply buzz your hair down to a three or four length with clippers, or better yet, go to a professional to restyle it.

Bouncy blowouts

Achieving Kim Kardashian’s signature bouncy waves is now easier than ever with hot rollers.

Give yourself a blowout with a round brush or a hair-dryer brush, then wrap wide sections of hair around hot rollers for voluminous, tousled curls.

Let these sit for 20 to 30 minutes before unravelling and shaking those bouncy curls out.

Volume for all textures

This season it’s all about volume, whether your hair is straight or textured, so get your sea salt spray and hairspray out.

There are also plenty of thickening mist sprays that double your hair’s thickness and are weightless so your hair doesn’t get that sticky feeling some hairsprays leave in your locks.

Look for sprays that detangle and have heat protection properties, are free of drying alcohols.

Soft and rich reds

If you’re happy with your current cut, but want a drastic change, perhaps a colour update is the way to go.

Everywhere on the Autumn/Winter 2023 runways, hair in numerous shades of red were spotted, from copper to auburn to two-toned styles.

Auburn hues add dimension, with deep-auburn shadow roots adding a moody, autumnal touch.

To maintain the look, consider using a copper hair gloss treatment every three to four weeks, best carried out in a hair salon by a professional.

The ‘Rachel’

The hairstyle sported by Friends’ Rachel Green was a phenomenon back in the 1990s, and is seeing a comeback with a few tweaks.

The iconic “Rachel” cut, which turns 29 this year, continues to inspire variations.

According to Cosmopolitan.com, experts predict we’ll see more adaptations of this 90s favourite, including the “satchel cut”, a fusion of the Rachel and shag cuts.

This style is particularly flattering for thin or fine hair, adding depth without appearing too thin.

Goth-inspired

Autumn/Winter 2023 runways showcased tons of gothcore fashion, and textured haircuts inspired by the trend are all the rage right now.

Expect layered styles that create a feathered, grungy aesthetic, including layers with wispy curtain bangs.

Various bobs

The “long bob” or “lob” is a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon. A popular choice for various types of hair textures, from sleek and straight to thick and curly,

This versatile cut is particularly great for those with thicker hair as the length helps control volume.

Choppy bobs with bangs is also a great bob trend inspired by the “Italian summer” trend on social media, which translates to playful experimentation with fringe.

Give variations like a long, layered bob a go, with blended curtain bangs for a softer take, or go bold with a chin-length chop and heavy bangs.
