The excitement over Barbiecore has surged to an all-time high as the stars of Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated new film inspired by the Barbie make their way around the world on their press tour.
Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, America Ferrera and the rest of the cast are knocking it out of the park with their sensational wardrobe picks, but today we are taking a closer look at their makeup, crafted to perfection to complement their overall looks.
From classic styles and elements of old Hollywood drama to looks inspired by the original doll, these stars are raising the bar on red carpet makeup.
Classic connection
Issa Rae, who plays a character named President Barbie in the movie, has been serving up plenty of gorgeous makeup looks to complement her attire.
According to InStyle, celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin drew inspiration for Rae’s makeup from the iconic dolls themselves, which all had the same aesthetic features: a matte lid with a cut pink crease, an angled black wing, and visible lash.
For the tour, she played up the pink and doll-like theme for the actress’s look, using the classic Barbie pink matte shadow and winged eyeliner.

Clean aesthetic
Singer Dua Lipa, who plays a mermaid in the film, has been showing up on the pink carpet wearing some memorable pieces, and her stunning makeup truly embodies the concept of “less is more”.
At the recent Britain premiere, she wore her hair in a sleek, polished sky-high ponytail and kept her makeup clean.
Playing up big, bold eyebrows, Lipa added a touch of drama with super-long lashes, matte lipstick and clean, dewy skin.
Dial up the drama
Makeup artists also made sure to have a bit of fun with the celebrities’ makeup styles, with striking eyeshadow befitting the occasion.
Smokey mattes, brilliant metallics and dramatic duochrome (a type of eyeshadow that changes colours depending on the light source) formulas that sparkled and shined at premieres around the world were an eye-catching feature on several celebrities.
Looks were romantic, daring or full-on glam, embracing the sophisticated side of Barbie’s persona.
Pretty in pink
There are several ways to enhance your facial bone structure and one of those is with carefully-applied blusher.
Achieve Barbie’s defined cheekbones by going with a shade of pink that works with your complexion, which mimics a natural flush or complements your desired look (regal, bold, romantic?)
To enhance your bone structure with blusher, apply a small amount to the hollows of your cheeks and blend outwards to create depth and contour.
You can apply a touch of blusher to the apples of your cheeks for a fresh look – just lightly dust the roundest part of your cheeks and you’re good!

Dreamy hues
Barbie as a brand tends to be synonymous with pink, so go all out with various shades of pink for lipstick.
Whether you lean towards romantic reds, cool coral, classic rose hues or experiment with magenta, play down your eye makeup to even out the look.
At the Seoul premiere of the film, America Ferrera had her eyelids dusted with light pink shadow, playing up her lips with a slightly darker shade.
