When fashion and art collide, you can expect only magic to happen

A lot of designers consider the fashion they create as art. After all, clothes can be seen as a form of artistry using fabric.

So it is natural that the two worlds often intersect, with various beautiful collaborations witnessed taking place between art and fashion.

Chloe’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, which debuted last month in Paris, is subtly inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi. The Renaissance era painter has been named as the fashion house’s muse, with her quotes used as captions for Instagram.

Known to be one of the first women to forge a successful career as a painter, Gentileschi is celebrated internationally during her lifetime.

The house of Paco Rabanne also turned to art to get inspiration. This one is more apparent though, where Salvador Dali’s paintings were featured in the textile prints used for Autumn/Winter 2023.

Rabanne’s link to art is evident in his friendship with Dali. The two are said to have been very close friends, whereby they constantly worked together during their lifetime.

As reported by Vogue, Dali once even boasted: “There are only two geniuses in Spain: me and Paco Rabanne.”

In the Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2023 show held last year, Italian artist Gaetano Pesce created special chairs for guests. The runway itself featured a pastel river of melted crayons.

In this instance, the clothes on the runway were not the only showstealers. Pesce’s chairs were such a big hit that they now are being sold in Bottega Veneta stores.

Not only that, the luxury fashion brand has announced a special art installation in the Milan store, where the artist’s handmade bags can be purchased.

There is also the Gucci exhibition that will take place this month. It is a collaboration with British artist Es Devlin.

While the aim of it is to showcase Gucci’s most iconic and timeless designs from its 102-year history, Devlin will be doing it using eight immersive “worlds” with a cutting-edge audio, visual and kinetic experience.

Louis Vuitton even has an art museum in Paris. Currently on display is the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, but this time, revealing his collaboration with Andy Warhol.

The exhibition will bring together more than 80 paintings jointly signed by the two artists.

Yes, art has always made a crossover into the fashion realm. However, for Saint Laurent, it is the reverse that happens.

The brand’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello has partnered with several prestigious Parisian galleries to curate a selection of vintage furniture.

The exhibition, dedicated to French art deco and modernist design, mainly features the work of Jean-Michel Frank, with additional pieces by Jacques Adnet and Jean Despres.
