Disney has become a major inspiration for modestwear in Malaysia

Disney is always a major inspiration for fashion. The industry has long taken the cue from various colourful animated films for its designs.

A local label recently launched a Minnie Mouse modestwear collection for kids. BBD claimed to be among the first in Malaysia to have done so, with clothes that celebrate the cartoon character’s girlish grace and charm.

Founder Zuerry Faeiz says that the magical world of Disney has alway held a special place in her heart since her childhood days.

“Ever since I was a child, I’ve always loved going to Disney World and I have loved every single Disney character!” she comments.

“Disney has always brought joy, happiness and ‘magic’ to my world personally, and it’d just be a dream come true if I could share these beautiful thoughts and memories I had about Disney with my kids and the new generation, as well as express this love in kids’ fashion.”

In the past, other Malaysian modestwear labels have also come up with Disney-themed collections. Mimpikita’s Disney collection in February this year drew from the world of Alice In Wonderland.

March saw Calaqisya tying up with Raya And The Last Dragon. The designs celebrated Disney’s first ever South-East Asian princess, Raya.

BBD’s Minnie Mouse collection however, is designed solely for children.

Cherish those memories

Commenting on how modestwear is now more popular than ever, Zuerry says a lot of great designers have been successful at coming up with beautiful creations and they have been accepted by all people – from adults to kids.

She, however, points out that designing kidswear does take a lot of passion. Comfort is the main consideration, as children do not like wearing fussy and impractical clothes.

“It has always been a thing for me since the birth of my daughter, Danisha. She has always been the inspiration since I ventured into the world of kids’ fashion,” Zuerry says.

Her Minnie Mouse collection makes use of fun and youthful patterns, paired with colourful and vibrant pastel colours. There is modern baju kurung, as well as a range of hijabs for kids.

“Inspiration comes in many angles. At BBD, we’re always inspired by the elements of joy, glee and memories. How we could create beautiful moments for the child,” she comments.

“We wanted to highlight the playful adventures and happy moments we had when we were little girls, and hope to share this same feeling with the next generation. We wish to bring a little magic to the lives of our shoppers, and inspire kids to be loving friends to each other, just like Minnie.”
