Want to enjoy good music ranging from jazz and retro to contemporary while supporting a good cause? Then Rocking For A Cause (RFAC) could be just the concert for you.Organised by Persatuan Muzik Malaysia (Musicians for Musicians Malaysia), the benefit concert aims to raise funds for veteran performers who have spent decades contributing to the local music scene and remain active today.
Taking place on Oct 10 at 4pm, the concert will be held at Dewan Tunku, Kelab Golf Negara Subang in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
MFMM president Francis Danker, 76, said the concert is not just about performances but an initiative aimed at making a meaningful impact in the community.
"Music has a unique ability to transcend barriers, heal and inspire. It unites us in ways that words alone cannot. With this concert, we aim to harness that power to support the many musicians who are in need, require medical aid, hospitalisation and are facing age-related issues.
"Sadly, in the past year alone we lost a few members and good friends from the music community due to illness and medical complications.
"Currently, we are assisting a number of our members to help alleviate their medical expenses and support their recovery from these challenges," Danker said during a press event to announce the concert in PJ recently.
The association aims to raise at least RM100,000 to provide medical assistance and support workshops, small-scale festivals and performance opportunities throughout the year.
"Every ticket sold, every note played, and every voice lifted will contribute to a cause that is close to our hearts. We need a lifeline.
"Let's fill the venue with love, laughter and the beautiful sound of music. Together, we can amplify our efforts and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most," added Danker, a veteran drummer who has been part of the Malaysian music scene for decades.
Performers include Datuk Francissca Peter, Datuk Leonard Tan, Os Pombos, Lighthouse, The Polymaths, Heavy Machine and Goblokes. Electric Organism, a rock band from the 1970s, will also reunite on stage for the concert.
"We have an exciting lineup of talented artists who are eager to share their gifts with you, from jazz to contemporary, pop to retro, country to top 40s. We are also giving recognition to 20 of our members who are above 75 and still making music. We will take you on a musical journey that promises to uplift your spirits and ignite your passion for giving," Danker said.
He added that the evening will also include a tribute to Heavy Machine member Rusli Musif, better known as Olie, who suffered a stroke.
His former group will perform with his daughter, saxophonist Kenanga Juwita Rusli, joining them on stage.
The association has about 500 active members comprising veteran musicians, performers and buskers.
Table tickets are priced at RM1,050, RM3,000 and RM5,000. Individual tickets are sold at RM105. (RM85 for MFMM members). For more details, call 019-282 2290 or email musiciansmalaysia@gmail.com.
