Travelling on vacation with your dog can be very stressful and costly.

With plenty of dog-friendly fun in your area, you can make the most of a vacation with your dog.

The American Kennel Club suggests the following tips to help you enjoy a fun “staycation” for you and your dog.

Picnic in the park

Look up some parks in your area that are pet friendly to plan a picnic with your pup.

Pack a lunch for yourself and your pup and don’t forget to bring toys to play with in the park.

Go to the beach

A great staycation spot is always the beach. Don’t forget to research which beaches near you are dog friendly.

Some dogs can be sensitive to the sun so be sure to bring dog-friendly sun block if necessary.

Also, bring extra towels to dry them off after their swim and bring plenty of water.

Have a barbecue

Make it a friends and family affair by inviting your friends and their dogs over for a backyard barbecue.

You can add to the event by setting up a kiddie pool or sprinklers or planning canine events such as trick shows or agility competitions.

Always be sure to have a shaded area where your pups can cool off.

Take a hike

A hike is a great way to get out of the house and get some exercise with your dog.

Whether you have a forest, stretch of country road, or a park near you, or even an urban trail, there is something for everyone.
