The Om Ali has a dark history dating back hundreds of years.

If you think about it, Middle Eastern restaurants in Malaysia are categorised as just that – Middle Eastern restaurants. There are few eateries that cater to specific cuisines from the region, and they all just tend to get clumped together under the Middle Eastern umbrella, with Malaysians none the wiser about the origins of what they’re eating.

It was partly this and partly a huge passion for Egyptian food that propelled Egyptian brothers-in-law Mohamed Zein and Mohamed Tarek Diab to launch Tut’s Egyptian Eatery in the cavernous confines of 1-Utama Shopping Centre.
