Starchild: Malaysian kids share what Valentine's Day means to them

Erica Sophia, 12

Last Friday was Valentine’s Day, a special day to show love and appreciation to the people who mean the most to us.

Valentine’s Day is not just for couples – it is also a wonderful time for children to show their parents, grandparents and siblings how much they love them.

How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Did you create handmade cards with drawings and kind words for your parents?

Perhaps you baked cookies or prepared small surprises to make your siblings happy. We hope it was a day filled with smiles, laughter and warm hugs.

Remembering our loved ones on Valentine’s Day is important because it reminds us to be grateful. A simple act of kindness, like writing a heartfelt note or helping with chores, can make someone’s day extra special.

Love is not just about gifts – it is about showing we care in big and small ways.

Recently Starchild asked readers to send in letters on the topic, Valentine’s Day. We received an overwhelming response from our young readers and featured the first batch of letters last week. Here is the second batch of letters.

“For Valentine’s Day, I gave my best friend, Chng Yan Bei, RM20 to buy himself some presents. It is because his birthday is also in February,” says Chuah Seng Koon, nine.

ITEM: School is back in session! After the holidays, it’s time to reunite with friends, meet new teachers, and start learning exciting new things. One of the best parts of school is discovering subjects we enjoy the most.

Do you love solving tricky Math problems? Or do you enjoy learning about science and doing fun experiments? Maybe you like reading interesting stories in English class or being creative in art lessons. Tell us about your favourite subject! Why do you like it? Is there a special teacher who makes the lessons fun?

How do you feel when you learn something new in your favourite class?

Email your contributions to lifestyle@thestar.com.my by March 5. Please put “STARCHILD: My Favourite Subject” in the subject line of your email.

Scanned drawings should be in jpeg format, with a resolution of 200dpi. Your contributions must carry your full name, age (open to children aged 12 and below only), gender, phone contact, and address. Instead of handwritten letters, please type out your letters.
