Veteran Hong Kong actor Kwok Fung recently appeared on a web programme, where he spoke about his late wife, actress Susanna Au-yeung.
In an interview with former TVB star Alice Fung, Kwok, 74, shared that one of his biggest regrets was not being more considerate of his wife's feelings while she was still alive.
He recounted his love for off-road racing in his younger days, including joining a gruelling six-day rally from Hong Kong to Beijing.
"It's a memory I regret. I signed up for the race without telling Susanna and only told her right before I was about to leave," he said.
Instead of getting angry, Au-yeung remained composed and simply reminded her husband to take good care of himself.
She even showed up on the day of the race just to see him off, according to Kwok.
"I didn't consider how my wife felt then," he added.
After completing the race and returning to Hong Kong, Kwok learned from a colleague that his wife had confided in her co-workers on set, saying how worried she had been about his safety.
He was told that Au-yeung seemed like "a completely different person" at the time.
Speaking about the early days of his relationship with Au-yeung, Kwok said she was a kind and gentle person who never raised her voice.
"I'm grateful to her and respect her deeply," he said, adding that she was the most important mentor in his life who changed him forever.
Kwok, who has starred in TVB dramas such as At The Threshold Of An Era (1999) and Dicey Business (2006), married Au-yeung in 1977.
They were known as one of showbiz's most loving couples and were hardly ever seen without one another.
While the pair had no children of their own, they raised an adopted son together.
Au-yeung died of lung cancer at the age of 63 in 2017.
