Malaysian actor Datuk Remy Ishak, known for roles in Pulang (2018) and cult favourite dramas like Nur Kasih, isn’t buying into the idea that fame depends on constant scrolling and posting.
At 43, the actor says he refuses to be “enslaved” by social media just to stay relevant - choosing instead to let his work, not his feed, speak for him.
“When you are not active on social media, they say you are not relevant.
“I am active on my own platforms, I am active in film, I am active in drama. So why should I enslave myself to social media when it will only lower my value? I am not someone who needs attention through social media,” he told reporters on Thursday.
He went on to stress that he has upcoming film projects which will naturally require promotional work, and it is during those moments that he will regain visibility at the right time.
According to him, this means there is no need to remain constantly in the spotlight.
“If you are always visible, people eventually get tired of you. They will grow weary of seeing the same thing over and over again, so it’s fine,” he added.
The actor, long admired for his ability to portray layered and emotional characters, stated that his main priority has always been his craft rather than chasing online attention.
He highlighted that true relevance should stem from meaningful work and real contributions, not from endless exposure on social media.
As an example, he stressed that while he is currently involved in promotional activities for Alicafe, his presence in that space already keeps him relevant.
Remy, who tied the knot with entrepreneur Ezza Yusof on Aug 21, 2021, is also a family man. The couple are parents to their two-year-old son, Alam Tuah Mohammad Zalimei. – Sinar Daily
