Award-winning Hong Kong actor Joel Chan has touched down in Malaysia to film a Chinese New Year project.

Recent photos of the 48-year-old on set, posted by a Xiaohongshu user, showed him enjoying a modest meal at a roadside stall in Kuala Lumpur.

He sported a rugged look, showing off his toned physique in a white tank top and ripped jeans.

“Bumped into a celebrity on the street,” the netizen wrote in the caption, adding a hashtag with Chan’s name.

According to China Press, the pictures sparked some confusion as Chan was looking down at his phone, leaving his face partially hidden.

Several netizens admitted they didn’t recognise him at first glance, with a few even mistaking him for a construction worker.

“Wait, who is this person? Is he filming something?” one person commented.

Another asked: “Is he a construction worker?”

Chan is no stranger to TVB drama enthusiasts in Malaysia, having starred in multiple projects such as Sisters Of Pearl (2010), Captain Of Destiny (2015), Succession War (2018), Flying Tiger 2 (2019) and more.

In 2017, he was named the Favourite TVB Supporting Actor at the TVB star Awards Malaysia for his performance in The Unholy Alliance.

Chan also took home the Best Actor prize at the TVB Anniversary Award in 2022 for his role in the supernatural-romance series Barrack O’Karma 1968.
