Hong Kong singer Steven Cheung raised concern among fans last month after his wife Au Yin Man revealed that their family was at risk of homelessness.

The couple and their four children had been served a 14-day eviction notice after falling six weeks behind on their HK$15,000 (RM8,162) monthly rent.

Since his 2019 scandal, when he announced his marriage to Au while still dating actress April Leung, Cheung has struggled to regain footing in the entertainment industry.

Over the years, the 40-year-old has taken on a string of odd jobs to keep his family afloat – from construction and cable wiring to handing out flyers and condoms.

More recently, Cheung switched from working as a cable technician to delivering household appliances, a role he has held for a month.

On Aug 26, the former Boyz member was photographed braving the rain as he pushed a refrigerator on a cart before carrying it up a building.

He was later seen retreating to his truck for a quick meal before continuing his gruelling day.

In an interview with Hong Kong media, Cheung said his family has long been weighed down by expenses such as rent, baby formula and domestic help.

He added that seeking aid from others often leaves him feeling embarrassed and helpless.

To make ends meet, Cheung relies not only on his basic salary but also on tips earned from hauling heavy goods up buildings.

The singer also revealed that after their previous lease ended, his family struggled to find affordable housing.

At one point, they were even forced to live apart, with his wife and children seeking refuge at a shelter for women and children while he stayed on his own.

Fortunately, the family has since secured a new home for HK$9,000 (RM4,897) per month.

Cheung expressed gratitude to his employer for advancing his salary to help cover moving expenses.

He also dismissed suggestions that his children should be temporarily placed under the care of a welfare organisation so that he and his wife could focus on generating income.

“I’ll never give my children up! Not in this lifetime! My kids are my life,” he said.
