Although nearly two years have passed, Malaysian singer Shila Amzah still needs time to fully accept her stepmother.

In an interview with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal, Shila, 34, revealed that she hasn’t spoken to her stepmother since the latter’s marriage.

However, she still maintains a good relationship with her father, popular 1980s singer Datuk ND Lala.

“We haven’t spoken to each other, and I’m still not ready yet," she said, before adding, "I keep in touch with my dad, who always contacts me. We’ll be breaking fast together at the end of the week."

The Patah Seribu hitmaker added that while she has come to terms with her parents’ divorce, she’s still shocked by the new partner her father chose.

“Love can’t be forced. If my parents aren’t happy, why should they keep forcing it? Let them find their own happiness. I’m only surprised by who he chose,” she said.

According to reports, Shila’s stepmother is believed to have been a close friend of the singer since their school days.

In the interview, Shila mentioned that she still has old photos with her stepmother on her phone.

“I have over 50,000 pictures in my gallery. While searching for photos of my time in China, I came across one with her,” she said.

For the record, ND Lala, whose real name is Amir Amzah Salleh, announced in September 2023 that he had married another woman.

The revelation came a month after the 64-year-old divorced his wife of 34 years Fauziah Sarman. The former couple shares four children.
