Local film Last Dive is set to put Malaysia in the global spotlight with its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival on May 14.
Starring Shiqin Kamal, Aniq Duraf, Amerul Affendi and Sandra Lim, the movie tackles urgent ocean conservation issues and the growing threat to fragile marine ecosystems.
The story follows Faiz, a former footballer whose dreams are shattered after a hit-and-run accident, and Amelia, a scuba diving instructor devoted to creating transformative underwater experiences for people with disabilities.
Their paths collide when Amelia and her team uncover a shocking betrayal: their boatman Kamal isn’t only involved in coral poaching and fish bombing, but also linked to Faiz’s accident.
Forced together by circumstance, Faiz, Amelia and her team unite in a fight for justice beneath the waves.
Adding to Malaysia’s presence at Cannes ahead of the film's premiere, executive producer Datin Dr Wendy Wong will also join a panel of distinguished speakers on May 13.
Titled “Behind the Camera, Beyond the Screen: Women Who Produce Change”, the panel discussion will explore the evolving role of producers in today’s entertainment landscape.
