Popular 1980s singer ND Lala, the father of renowned Malaysian pop star Shila Amzah, has made it clear that his love for his children won’t change despite his divorce from Fauziah Sarman early August.

In an interview with Berita Harian, ND Lala – whose real name is Amir Amzah Salleh – said there were no issues regarding his relationship with his children as they were his “flesh and blood”.

“I know that whatever had happened impacted my family. My children and I have been put to the test. But whatever it is, we have to keep praying for the best,” the 62-year-old said.

ND Lala ended his 34-year marriage with Fauziah, 55, after pronouncing the divorce at Masjid Ar Rahman in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Aug 2.

He issued a statement earlier in September in which he confirmed his marriage to Siti Munirah Abdul Ghani, but it received mixed reactions from social media users.

During the interview, ND Lala acknowledged the criticisms he received from netizens but made it clear that he does not intend to take their words to heart.

“Every individual goes through their own tests. There’s no need to be curious about what outsiders (think) about us as long as it doesn’t cross the limits of religion,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shila said in a recent interview with Hot FM that she will remain "neutral" about the divorce and "not take any sides".

She also added that the decision to split was up to her parents and that she will be praying for both of their happiness regardless.

ND Lala and Fauziah tied the knot in 1989. They have four children together – Shila, 33, Amir Syafiq, 30, Amir Syahir, 28, and Syada, 25.
