Donnie Yen addresses using coarse language towards production crew: 'Using profanity doesn’t mean you’re uncultured'

Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen has addressed the issue of using coarse language towards the production crew during the filming of his latest movie, The Prosecutor.

According to China Press, a video from the set captured Yen appearing visibly tense and swearing at the crew members. The 61-year-old serves as the film's director, producer and leading star.

Commenting on the incident at the recent TVB Anniversary Awards, Yen said: “Everyone swears! Using profanity doesn’t mean you’re uncultured. Even cultured people swear. I don’t think it reflects someone’s character or upbringing.”

The actor further emphasised that his remarks weren't directed at anyone specifically, adding that it’s all part of the “culture on set”.

“It’s perfectly normal, and I ensured everything was fine before the film was released,” he said.

Yen attended the TVB Anniversary Awards as a presenter for the Best Drama Series award.

The actor, who has worked on many TVB shows, praised the talents signed under the broadcaster and reflected on his experience filming at the agency over 30 years ago.

“Filming was much tougher then – working day and night, dealing with countless scenes and sometimes going 24 hours without sleep.

“My eyes would barely stay open, yet I still had to memorise lines. It required strong willpower!” he exclaimed.

When asked by Hong Kong media if he plans on returning to TVB for more dramas, the Ip Man star humorously replied: “I can’t do it anymore! I’m too old to handle it.”
