Malaysian actress Lin Min Chen has come under fire from Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing for failing to attend the premiere of her horror movie Haunting Call.
According to reports, Lin – who’s based in Hong Kong – missed the event as she had lost her passport. The 34-year-old is the lead star of Haunting Call.
In an interview with Hong Kong media, Wong criticised Lin for not showing enough commitment to her project, saying: “If she truly cared, she would have arrived on time.”
When asked if he believed Lin was being dishonest, the 69-year-old declined to comment further, saying he didn’t know the actress personally nor had a close relationship with Haunting Call director Danny Pang.
As for how he would handle such a situation if it happened to him, Wong said: “At most, I wouldn’t cast her in my next movie as I find it unethical.
“It all comes down to how much you value the film. Just because you’ve had one or two successful projects doesn’t mean you’re the greatest.”
Meanwhile, Pang, 59, has expressed shock at Lin missing the film premiere, adding that it was something he hadn’t anticipated.
However, he made it clear that the Penang-born actress was professional and easy to work with throughout the production of Haunting Call.
“She’s very pleasant to work with. I have no idea why this happened at the film premiere... I’ll make sure that such incidents don’t happen again,” he said.
