You could say Anthony Wong is suffering for his craft through method acting.

The Hong Kong actor previously gained weight for his role as a taxi driver in the 2022 film The Sunny Side Of The Street for which he took home the Best Actor trophy at the Golden Horse Award.

However, the 62-year-old shared that the weight he gained has caused numerous health issues for him.

"After playing this character for a period of time, I felt that my physical condition had deteriorated and I couldn't walk properly," he said in a behind-the-scene video released last year.

At a recent event in Taiwan, Wong revealed to the media that his cholesterol level is high and his arteries are blocked.

"I have high blood pressure and a blocked artery in my heart. I love to eat but I have no choice, I can't eat anything now," Wong said.

The award-winning actor is advised by his doctor to undergo heart surgery but, so far, he has ignored it.

"[The doctor] said to get [the surgery] done when the risks are low. I said, 'Why should I get surgery when there isn't much risk? I will get it when I am in danger'," he said.

"The doctor said I'd die within a year if I don’t undergo surgery. But it's been a year and a half now, and I'm still alive," he continued.

Wong added that he will stick to natural methods and is currently focusing on losing weight through exercise.

So, has it been successful? "I only lost a little weight, not much," came his reply.
