Former Category III actress Amy Yip has opened up about her relationship with her late boyfriend, orthopaedic surgeon Sammy Lui Sek Chiu.

In a recent interview with HK01, Yip disclosed that Lui had bugged her home during the early days of their relationship due to his intense love for her.

The Hong Kong star recounted an incident where Lui eavesdropped on a conversation with her friend and mistakenly thought she was going to meet other men.

“(My friend) told me to go to Malaysia, where she would introduce some handsome guys to me.

“I said ‘sure’, but it was just a joke between us women.

“Who would’ve thought my boyfriend would take it seriously,” the 57-year-old said, adding that her boyfriend was very upset when he came home that night.

One day, Yip returned home only to find that Lui had left.

At the time, the actress was not aware of the bugging devices and was advised to wait outside Lui’s clinic to see if he had another woman, which she refused to do.

Two days later, Yip received a call from Lui, saying he wanted to return home.

“When I asked him why he left, he said it’s because he overheard me saying I hated him and talking about meeting handsome men in Malaysia.

“I then asked why he only called me now, and he told me he couldn’t get used to being without me. He also came clean about the bugging devices,” she said.

Although Yip found it hard to forgive Lui at the time, she relented when he knelt in front of her door, begging for forgiveness.

“I told him not to install any bugging devices again. It was really scary,” she said.

Yip and Lui, who met in 1992, have been together for 26 years but never married.

Lui died of a heart attack while flying to the United States in November 2018.

Recounting the last time she saw Lui, Yip told HK01: “I remember the day I saw him off, saying goodbye. Sometimes, saying goodbye really means not seeing each other ever again.”
